bristol stomp

Bristol: Where the men speak like pirates,
and the street art is revolutionary.
Part One: Bristol City.

Arriving at the station...

The coloured houses of Bristol up high on a hill.

Walking into the city centre.

Pink.

Pump Lane, BS1.

Wonderfully 1950s.

Got horribly lost here for a while.

But there's always a silver lining to getting lost:
rows and rows of candy-coloured houses to see.

  Realizing I needed to cross the water to get into town;
hazy city centre in the distance.

Pretty Bristol Dusk.

More of the same.

Narrow Quay, on which I stayed.

And where is docked...

The Under the Stars Cafe Bar.

View from my hostel; a converted warehouse right on the quay.

And I should add that I am DONE with hostels after this.
Hotels for this girl from now on.

Mud Dock.

The Georgian quartier.

 Queen Square, finished in 1727.

King Street & The Old Duke.

Old Bristol.

Walking up Park Street in the rain.

I learned that Bristol is basically built on the side of mountain.

Concrete flowers.

Charlotte Street, BS1.

So many stairs and steep, steep hills.

In fact, in Bristol I noticed a phenomenon that I thought only existed
within the continental U.S., given our crimes against fashion.

You know that horrible habit of wearing tennis
shoes with a work suit for commuting ?

Like this ?  Gross, I know.
{And that looks suspiciously like the DC metro.}

But anyway, that phenomenon exists in Bristol.
I saw it with my own eyes on many people.

But you really can't blame them with all the hiking they have to do.
Never seen a steeper city in my life.

Christmas Steps 1.

Christmas Steps is a historic merchant street.

Which dates to medieval times.

Full of character.

And a workout.

After all the hill-climbing, a well-deserved Corona and a real
burrito {so rare en Angleterre} at Mission Burrito on Park Street.

A trip to Bristol wouldn't be complete without Banksy.
Naked Man on Park Street.

Denmark Street.

Such a colorful city.

Martin van Buren ?

The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol.

Changed Priorities Ahead.
