cloister secrets

As promised, scenes from the Canterbury Cathedral cloisters. I actually went through here before the Cathedral, because it's where the library is located.

Entering les cloisters.

Looking out into the centre, view of cathedral.

It feels very Hogwarts in there.

Some stained glass survives, but I don't think
it's very old, judging by appearance.

I looked up and was amazed to find the most gorgeous
painted heraldic ceiling bosses, covered in cobwebs.

Each vault features different heraldry.

I wish I could identify it all.

Roses and faces and green men, oh my!

Red roses of the House of Lancaster.

Crescent moons, fleurs-de-lys, and ermine, yes please.

Gorgeous. I want ceiling bosses like this in my house.

I peeked into the rectangular Chapter House.

Now for a series of wall memorial plaques
for those buried in the cloisters. Beautifully simple.

This one mentions "Georgia, North America" at the bottom.

Skulls on floor slab.

Leaving the cloisters.

And also leaving the precincts, heading into the town next!
xx
