I decided to start this blog to keep family and friends updated on my adventures and experiences during my two-year stay in York, England while I work towards my Masters degree. I had the best intentions to do a blog during my time in Paris, but it never happened, which I regret, so I will try to keep this one up!
After a near-disastrous trip across the pond (which involved a man getting arrested on our Dulles-Heathrow flight, me running full speed through Heathrow and only just making my flight to Manchester as they are announcing the gates are closing, a horrendous train trip to York full of a stag party of men who had begun their drinking hours earlier that morning and continued it on the train, and finally dragging an eighty pound suitcase across York cobblestones as I got lost trying to find the place where I was supposed to pick up my keys), I have arrived in York!
Things have gone well so far other than the fact that I am apparently allergic to my room. It is really big, which is nice, but at the top of the building, just under the roof and feels very damp and moldy, which is great since I am allergic to mold. I woke up this morning to a swollen eye and hives on my neck. Hopefully, I will be able to move somewhere else in the building. And I'm going to start looking for a flat of my own anyway, because the bathroom situation is less than ideal...
But, enough of my complaining. I love the city of York even more than I remembered, and people have been beyond kind and welcoming so far. Yesterday evening I walked around a bit, and took some pictures, which are below. Today's been mostly rainy, so I slept off some jet leg, ventured out to Betty's for a Fat Rascal and some tea, and then went to Evensong at the Minster, which was gorgeous.

Fat Rascals from Betty's are the most delicious scones ever. Note the smiley face made by the cranberries and almonds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_Rascal

All that rough beginning junk is just a sign of amazingness to come! You had to get all that stressful stuff out of the way.
