only a northern song

This has been a much-needed, relaxing weekend after a full and stressful week in the studio, standing at my workbench all day. Friday night all of us from the programme went to the pub with some other students/lecturers from King's Manor, which was fun.

Then Saturday morning, I got up kind of early and walked some of the walls, mostly from Monk Bar through Robin Hood's Tower to Bootham Bar. Below are a few pictures of that.

Then I did some grocery shopping, and had a nice tea party for myself. Also have begun decorating and unpacking, pretty sure I'm just going to stay where I'm at, for now at least. Allergies seem to have improved a bit and I was pleased to discover a secret kitchen only one floor below me.

Finally, I ended the evening going to the pub with my friend Inge from South Africa, who I met on the train from Manchester to York. We had delicious fish & chips and pints from The Punch Bowl, a really cool old (& haunted!) pub which I'll definitely visit again. I'm scoping out the different places so I'll know where to take my visitors when they begin to arrive! Hint, hint.

Back gardens of the Treasurer's House from the walls.

My delicious Saturday tea. Yorkshire Gold tea with milk, a delicious sultana scone from Betty's, and the most wonderful cheese ever. Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese with cranberries in it. I die.

So, for some reason I've been hard-pressed to find my favourite Typhoo tea here. Everyone drinks Yorkshire Gold, apparently, so I figured I'd give it a try, "when in Rome," you know. Pretty packaging at least.

Fish & Chips from The Punch Bowl. The green stuff is mushy peas, which will take some getting used to. Plus a nice pint of Stella.

  1. Your Ghost Minster photo is stunning. It is tragic you can't track down Typhoo, but the Yorkshire Gold looks wonderful, too.

And I am definitely taking your visitors hint.
