outside the rain

Scenes from a rainy/grey/lovely Saturday in Harrogate spent with two fellow Maryland girls--my classmate Clare & her daughter Sofia.

Harrogate is a spa town in North Yorkshire,
about thirty minutes from York on le train.

It has a distinctly Georgian feel to it,
with its wide streets and green spaces.

We were there to do some shopping.

Destination: Primark.
That glorious institution of cheap that York denies us.

It was quite rainy, but that doesn't stop those Eng.

Leftover from the old days.

Leftover from le Wedding.

Now come join me under my umbrella.

Ella ella, eh eh eh.

You know me, in anticipation for precipitation.

So where did we go in all this rain?

Why the original Betty's tea room and café, of course.

It's quite the destination in Harrogate; dates to 1919.

And we waited in quite the queue.

But that's quite all right.

We got to people watch.

From inside as well.

Under my umbrella I'm an accomplished exile.

Table 7. "Best seats in the house."

We were seated in the Montpellier Café Bar.

There's comfort in my dark seat, and chaos in the aisles.

A spot of Betty's tea room blend hit the spot.

Clare's and Sofia's sandwiches.

And mine.
Roast pepper, avocado & sun-blushed tomatoes w/ olive tapenade.
On Malted Swiss Stick Bread.
I die.

Cool teapots on the walls.

Peeking into the tea room & restaurant section.

Makin' coffee.

And the bakery.

The prettiest petits fours you'll ever see.

For Georgette's daughters.

When we went back outside, Mr. Blue Sky had appeared.

But not for long.
Let it rain, I hydroplane into fame.

And what did I buy chez Primark?

Oh, just the most amazing cameo bedding for Glasgow.
For a whopping eleven pounds.
Win.

  1. Gasp! That bedding is parfait!

And those petits fours look divine, as do the doggies.
