sunny sunday

I owe y'all a post from Och Aye Land.
Scenes from a semi-sunny Sunday spent with my first guests in Ggow;
My friend Alexandra & her friend Chloe, up from London.

Red Cab & Central Station Hotel, City Centre.

We headed to Hillhead & University Avenue.

Ggow University still looks like Hogwarts to me.

And we had the first blue sky I've seen since I moved to Scotland.

Lovelyyyyy.

How'd you like to go to school there?

Oh and you get an amazing view of the Kelvingrove Museum
and all of Ggow.

Leaving the campus.

Then we went to the prettiest little bit of the West End.

I wish I could live in the West End.

You would too.

Ashton Lane on Sunday.

Sunday morning paper.

Two petits Westies for Mutti.

The striped tents are little market stalls.

Bows and other bits and bobs.

Venue.

We stopped at the Grosvenor Café on the Lane.

We sat outside.

Alexandra's seat was a swing.

Mon latte.

Brunch/lunch.

While we were eating, the Scottish National Theatre was
filming a mini-musical on the Lane.
It's going on YouTube and we'll be in the bg, lolz.

At the café bar.

It's also a little cinemahhhh.

GW Girls in Ggow.
[You got 1/3 of the class of 2010's French majors right thurr].

Leaving the Lane.

Curlers Rest.

And heading down to la Kelvingrove.

Isn't it gorgeous under the blue Scottish sky?

It's the most-visited UK museum outside of Londontown.

Let's go inside.

Grand entrance; we were greeted with organ musique.

And spotted: first man in kilt, lolz.

Oh hey, Queen Vicky.

Why yes, those were floating heads behind her.

Kind of amazing.

They all have different expressions.

The museum is part of the Glasgow Museums group,
which I "work" for.

The Farmer Gallery.

K-grove has a random collection.

But I like it.

And they have a Rossetti!
Regina Cordium--Alice Wilding, 1866.

They also have the late 19th-early 20th c. tea room
interiors designed by the famous Glaswegian
architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

More on him at a later date.

We were also obsessed with the 18th c. dresses on display.

Gorg.

We decided we need to bring this style back.

Along with Marie-Antoinette-style powdered wigs.

Most amazing red baroque shoes.

My fave yellow dress.

Ugh so amazing.

All the way from Washington...

I want to wear one of those dresses and run through
the halls of K-grove à la Kirsten Dunst at Versailles.

Love the floors.

And the balustrades.

Moi aussi.

Moi in the Italian gallery.

K-grove interpretation of an Italian Renn chapel.

See ya latahhhh, K-grove.

Then we walked into the city centre.

I love the hill streets.

Skies were blue.

Chandeliers were red.

Sauciehall Street on a Sunday.

One of those Mackintosh tea rooms
I was telling you about.

Also: we found a glorious store called Americandy.

Selling American stuff we can't normally get au Royaume-Uni.

What we got.
Overpriced but so worth it.

Making our way to the centre of the centre.

Ggow's Hôtel de Ville.

Statues.

And the weekend ends.
xx
