An artsy morning in The Pool = perfection.
"For a time the talk was all of Liverpool.
Branwell's enthusiasm was infectious.
The family must go -- his father, his aunt, the girls;
Nobody had lived if they had not seen Liverpool."
~ Daphne DuMaurier, The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë

Ugh love.

Peacock.

Obsessed with the damask walls.

And with this.

My man.

Bearded Man in Armour.

And the reason for hitting up this gallery.
Getting to see another painting from my undergrad
art history thesis in the flesh = priceless.
Portrait of Marguerite d'Angoulême,
Jean Clouet, ca. 1530.
I deeply approve of how they have this displayed --
at eye level, and against that lime green damask !

And a Pugin chair for good measure.

From the gallery steps.

The Beatles used to play at the Empire Theatre, nbd.

Intense weather in Liverpool.

Bluest skies one minute.

L1.

Lots of animal print in Liverpool.

Desperate Scousewife.

Lololololololol where am I, Murrica ?

Here Comes The Sun.

Immediately followed by an intense hailstorm.

Making our way down to the docks, despite the hail.

Albert Dock, at the heart of Liverpool.

There must be something in the water {that's the Mersey}.

For You Blue.

Same-ish but so pretty.

And I said, it's all right.

Warehouses.

And the reason for hitting up the docks... the Tate Liverpool
"Alice in Wonderland: Through the Visual Arts" Exhibition !

The Tate Liverpool is in one of the old warehouses.

The exhibition was AMAZING.

It combined Lewis Carroll's photography collection, writings,
and drawings, with dozens of printed and film versions of
Alice in Wonderland, and tons of modern art inspired by the story.

No photos allowed inside, so I bought the catalogue.

Charles L. Dodgson/Lewis Carroll's photographs of the
real Alice (Alice Liddell) and her sisters.

Julia Margaret Cameron, Alice Liddell as St. Agnes, 1872.

Dodgson's original sketches for Alice in Wonderland.

And a sampling of other stuff from the exhibition...

"Purports to be for children, but don't be fooled." ~ Adrian Piper

I was so inspired. Highly recommend !

Back out to the docks.

Look out; helter skelter.
^^ & stay tuned for a very FAB Liverpool afternoon...
