the star money (die sterntaler)

And now, Nuremberg By Night...
{What my poor little camera could capture, at least.
Night shots are not its strong point.}

St. Sebalduskirche under sapphire skies.

City rain, city square.

A bizarre bonfire ritual.

One of my favourite dinners from the whole trip:
Turkey escalope in a mushroom cream sauce with spätzle.
Mit bier, natürlich.

Pretty little bridge.

Nuremberg is magical by night.

A small group of us braved the rain to wander around the empty city.

It was a highlight of the trip, this little adventure.

Destination: Nuremberg Castle, built high on sandstone rock.

An Imperial castle, begun in 1377.

Lovely biergarten built into the castle rock.

Heading up the cliff.

Eerie shadows on the deserted castle.

In the shadow of the castle walls...

Much to our surprise, we could go into the castle area.

So onward we went.

Through the castle tunnels.

Stop at the base of the tower.

From there, you have an incredible view above all of Nuremberg.
Steeples of St. Lorenzkirche at left, St. Sebalduskirche at right.

James, Greer, Anna, and Garvin enjoying the view.

We are intrepid. We carry on.

The Nuremberg adventurers leave the castle.

American girls are weather and noise.*

In this land or in that land, well the castles all seem to belong to her.

Run into the shadows.

The ones who sing at night.

Witchery outside the castle.

Street lamp & castle.

Heading downhill from the castle, and...

We happened upon THIS.

The house of ALBRECHT EFFING DÜRER.

Pause and pay homage to the original Renaissance baller.

A Dürer shrine.

Dürer's local pub.

Lots of posh shops on Dürer's street.

We were all very taken with this silhouette shop.

So lovely.

Germany is the best.

Medieval armour shop.

Alte Kuch'n.

Gorgeous antique shop.

In the shadows of St. Sebalduskirche.

In all its glory.

Walking in the Nuremberg rain.

Heading towards the grand place.

Spire monument.

Night Frauenkirche.

Crossing the bridge again.

In the still of the night.

The mermaid ice cream shop.

Pharmacy.

Lights.

St. Lorenzkirche.

Gute Nacht, Nürnberg.
