the good bargain (der gute handel)

A visit to the Fuggerei in Augsburg. Founded in 1516 by Jakob Fugger the Rich, it is the world's oldest social housing complex.
Built to assist the "deserving poor," the rent is still the same as it was in the sixteenth century -- now equivalent to 0.88 euros a year, plus three daily prayers for the Fugger family.

Marked by a golden exterior...

The Yorkies approach the Fuggerei.

I am so obsessed with balcony bay windows.

Detail of heraldry at the window base.

Creepy dolls in an adjacent building.

With the yellow Fuggerei in the reflection.

Entering the complex.

A tranquil Renaissance city within a city.

And it was all yellow.

For silence is golden.

If I am silent then I am not real.

Time it passes and it tells us what we're left with.

We become the things we do.

We can't control all our situations.

Life brings on unexpected changes.

So why don't we try to make more smiling faces.

The local bar.

Have your cake, and eat it too.

Windows to another world.

In the recreated medieval apartment.

And reruns all become our history.

The past is never far.

We wondered what these codes marked in chalk on all
the doors were, which our German professor explained...

It is an old religious tradition in Germany. At the feast of the
Epiphany, children go around dressed up and singing for people.
They then mark their doors in chalk with these symbols, in blessing.
20 * C + M + B * 12.

The 20 and 12 at the ends represent the year, 2012.
The C + M + B stands for Christus Mansionem Benedicat,
which means "Christ bless this house."
It also represents the initials of the three wise men,
Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar.

Finally I found a cat.

German kitty don't care !

I believe that we are lucky.

We are golden.

We have stolen manners in the days when we were one.
